What is Supported Independent Living?

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an NDIS-funded support that helps people with disability live as independently as possible — in their own home or a shared living arrangement — with trained support workers available around the clock. SIL is about having the right help when you need it, so you can focus on living your life your way.

Live with 2–4 housemates in a supported environment with shared on-site workers.

Individual Living

Overnight Support

Frequently Asked Questions — SIL

What is the difference between SIL and SDA?

SIL (Supported Independent Living) refers to the support and staffing provided to help you live independently. SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation) refers to the physical home or building itself, designed for people with extreme functional impairment. Some participants are funded for both SIL and SDA, while others only need SIL in a standard rental property.

How is SIL funded in my NDIS plan?

SIL is funded under the "Assistance with Daily Life" support category in your NDIS plan. It requires a specific SIL assessment and a Roster of Care (ROC) that details the hours and type of support needed. Your support coordinator can help you request SIL funding at your next plan review.

Can I choose who I live with in shared SIL?

We try to match housemates based on compatibility — including age, interests, support needs, and lifestyle. You and your family will be consulted before any placement is finalised. Your comfort and preferences always come first.

What happens if I'm unhappy with my support workers?

Your satisfaction matters to us. If you're unhappy with a support worker, simply let our team know and we will arrange a replacement as quickly as possible. We want your SIL home to feel safe and comfortable at all times.

Do you provide SIL support overnight and on weekends?

Yes. We offer active overnight support, sleepover support, and full weekend coverage depending on your Roster of Care. SIL support does not stop when business hours end — we're there whenever you need us.

Can I trial SIL before committing?

Yes — transitional or short-term SIL arrangements are available for participants wanting to experience independent living before committing to a long-term arrangement. Contact us to discuss what's possible within your current NDIS plan.
